Since April 2020, Lauderdale County has collected Rogersville’s garbage, and the county’s rules are direct: “Residents must maintain the cleanliness of their cart.” TidyCan cleans your county cart on your pickup day, in town and out across the 35652 area. Service starts at $30 every 4 weeks for up to two bins.
Rogersville switched to county garbage in 2020
In April 2020 the East Lauderdale News reported that “garbage collection service for the Town of Rogersville has switched from Waste Management to the Lauderdale County Solid Waste Department.” The town’s own trash page still sends residents to the county for garbage information. The county, for its part, serves “all of Lauderdale County excluding Florence City Limits and Lexington City Limits,” which takes in Rogersville and the countryside around it.
That switch changed whose cart sits beside your house. The carts are now county property. They stay with the home if you move, and if one is damaged beyond repair, the resident pays to replace it.
“Residents must maintain the cleanliness of their cart. It is recommended that you bag all waste to help maintain cleanliness.”

Most of Rogersville’s 35652 is out in the county
The Town of Rogersville had 1,414 residents in 2024, according to the Census Bureau, up from 1,286 in 2020, on about three square miles. The 35652 ZIP code is far bigger. About 96 percent of its land lies outside town limits, stretching out toward Wheeler Lake and Joe Wheeler State Park. Those homes are on the same county service and the same cleanliness rule, so everything here applies in town and out on the county roads alike.
No curbside recycling, so one cart carries it all
Neither the town nor the county lists curbside recycling for Rogersville. Unless you haul it to a drop-off yourself, the soda cans, bottles and food containers go into the same 95 gallon cart as everything else, and that sugary residue is what sours first.
Why a Shoals summer is the whole problem
NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 climate normals for Muscle Shoals Regional Airport, the reporting station for the Shoals, put the average July high at 91.6°F and the average July low at 71.4°F. The nights barely cool the cart off. A closed plastic container with food waste in the bottom sits in that for weeks at a time, and that is what turns a cart into something you hold your breath to open.
